Getting started

  • Download & install. Matrix Vault is coming to the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad — install it like any other app, then open it to begin.
  • Set your master password. On first launch you create the password that unlocks your vault. It is used to derive your encryption key on-device — choose something strong and memorable, as it cannot be recovered if lost.
  • Add what you want to protect. Import files, photos, passwords and notes into the vault. The built-in messenger needs no phone number or email — pick a username and add contacts by QR code or username.
  • Permissions. Allow notifications so the messenger can reach you, and grant camera/photo access when you want to scan a code or import media. You can change these any time in iOS Settings.

Free, Pro & subscriptions

  • The vault, password manager, private browser and messenger are free.
  • The built-in AI assistant is freemium: a free allowance, plus an optional Pro subscription that raises its usage limits.
  • Pro is an auto-renewable subscription handled by Apple's App Store. Manage, change or cancel it any time under your name in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
  • We never see your card details — Apple processes all payments and handles refund requests under its policies.

Troubleshooting

  • Forgot your vault password. Encryption is the point — there is no password reset and no recovery path. If you have no working backup, the encrypted data cannot be opened by anyone, including us.
  • Moving to a new iPhone. Use an encrypted backup or the direct QR device transfer before you wipe the old phone; there is no cloud copy to fall back on.
  • Not getting message or call alerts. Make sure notifications are allowed for Matrix Vault in iOS Settings, and that Focus / Do Not Disturb is not silencing them.
  • “Safety number changed” in a chat. This appears when a contact reinstalls or switches devices. Re-verify by comparing the 12-digit safety number, ideally in person.
  • The AI assistant hit its limit. The free allowance resets over time; Pro raises the limit.

Privacy & security

Your vault is encrypted on your device with AES-256 and the key is sealed in your iPhone's secure hardware; messages are end-to-end encrypted; and the AI assistant runs on our own privately-owned servers — nothing goes to third-party AI services. Common questions

What exactly is Matrix Vault?

It's an all-in-one private suite for iPhone and iPad: an encrypted vault for your files and photos, a password manager, a private web browser, and a full end-to-end encrypted messenger — all behind one disguised login. Everything is protected by AES-256 encryption that works on your device.

Is it really encrypted end-to-end?

Yes. Everything in the vault is encrypted on your device, and messages are end-to-end encrypted, so only the intended recipient can read them. The key that unlocks your vault is sealed inside your iPhone's secure hardware and never leaves the phone.

What is the disguised login?

Matrix Vault can present itself as an ordinary calculator, weather, map or timer app — even a plain Face ID screen. The disguise really works, so nothing looks unusual, and only your correct secret entry opens the real vault.

What is the duress vault?

You can set up a completely separate second vault with its own files, passwords and chats. If you're ever pressured to unlock the app, you can open the duress vault instead — your real data stays hidden, and there's no telltale anywhere that a second vault even exists. It's set up once during onboarding to keep it undetectable.

Do I need a phone number or account to use the messenger?

No. YoMatrix, the built-in messenger, needs no phone number and no email. You add contacts by scanning a QR code in person or by a chosen @username, so your conversations aren't tied to your real-world identity.

Which devices are supported?

Matrix Vault runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. The interface and on-the-fly message translation each cover 59 languages.

How much does it cost?

The vault, password manager, browser and messenger are all free. An optional Pro tier raises the usage limits on the built-in AI assistant — everything else is included at no cost.
